Interior Cabinet Secretary nominee Kithure Kindiki has said going into the future, he will ensure that promises made during a consultative meeting in Pokot will be fulfilled.

He admitted that some of the promises he made have not been realised including the operationalisation of new administrative units.

Speaking during his vetting by the National Assembly Committee on Thursday, Kindiki noted that some of the promises made during his visit to Pokot have been realised.

These include the provision, training and equipping of 200 National Police Reservists for West Pokot and the setting up of a security camp at Lami Nyeupe.

"The issue of units is outstanding and not just for West Pokot but also for a few other counties including some parts of Baringo, Samburu and a few other counties that did not benefit from the operationalisation of units. That is work that we are going to complete if we are reappointed," Kindiki said.

Answering the question of giving control to police over resources related to the operations, Kindiki was not opposed to the idea.

"The operational budget of the police must be run by the National Police Service themselves and not by the Ministry, not by the Office of the President," he said.

He said this should help the police work more effectively and in a better manner.

"These are issues we will be looking at if reappointed," Kindiki said.
