Bags of Cannabis siezed by DCI

Two high school students are in police custody after being caught trafficking a significant amount of cannabis.

The students, aged 17 and 16, were travelling on a Bus from Busia to Nairobi when they were apprehended.

Acting on a tip-off, a multi-agency team stationed at the Suo roadblock conducted a thorough search of the bus.

During the search, officers discovered five bales of cannabis, weighing a total of 23 kilogrammes, hidden in the students' bags. The estimated street value of the seized cannabis is Sh690,000, the police said.

"A meticulous search ensued, leading to the discovery of five bales of cannabis, weighing a total of 23 kilogrammes, cleverly concealed in the students’ bags," DCI stated on X.

The two students, who are in Form 4 and Form 3 respectively, were immediately taken into custody and are currently being held at Busia police station. They are expected to be charged in court soon.

The Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) has confirmed the arrests, underscoring the ongoing efforts by law enforcement to combat drug trafficking in the country. 

"The young suspects were promptly escorted to Busia police station, where they are being processed for their day in court" DCI said.
