The Bomet county assembly has approved a motion to suspend all ongoing interviews and any further recruitment by the Bomet County Public Service Board.
The motion, moved by Chepchabas MCA Wesley Kiprotich, calls for a halt until the county's budgetary process is completed and financial allocations confirmed.
In a statement released to newsrooms, the county assembly highlighted that the budget for the current financial year 2024-2025 has not yet been finalised.
This delay, coupled with austerity measures recently announced by President William Ruto, necessitates caution in financial planning and expenditure, the house said.
"Noting that the county government of Bomet budget for the current financial year 2024-2025 has not yet been finalised, and also recognising that there is uncertainty regarding whether it will receive the intended budgetary allocation, we are concerned that any new recruitment may constrain the provision of county services if adequate funds are not available to support the budget," the statement read.
The assembly underscored the need for adherence to the President's directive on austerity measures, emphasising the importance of prudent financial management during these uncertain times.
"This house is also aware that His Excellency President William Ruto declared government entities should adopt austerity measures," the statement further read.
Furthermore, the assembly warned that filling vacancies for chief officers was not a priority at this time, noting that existing chief officers were adequately handling their functions.
Additionally, the assembly highlighted concerns about the conduct of the Bomet County Public Service Board.
A notice of motion has been tabled for the removal of the chairman and members of the board, citing grave issues regarding their conduct, including their actions during the most recent recruitment exercise.
"Regarding these concerns, we, the county assembly of Bomet, therefore, resolve that the Bomet County Public Service Board suspend the ongoing interviews and any further recruitment process for the advertised positions until the county budgetary process is completed and financial allocations are confirmed," the statement concluded.
