Tourism Cabinet Secretary nominee Rebecca Miano now says if approved, she will ensure to transform the Air bnb space.

Speaking on Saturday during her vetting by the Committee on Appointments at the Parliament, Miano said the space is lagging compared to other countries.

"When I look at the Air bnbs, we are lagging as a country, as a region. We are trying to catch up, trying to avoid and manoeuvre issues that come up," she said.

"Therefore, that being the case, if approved I will ensure that this is also a priority so that in consultation with other arms of the government, with other ministries that have a stake in this, we finalise the strategy, the regulations and legislative and policy agenda that is required."

This, she said is so that they can tidy up the space that is currently untidy getting into security issues.

The Airbnb business war was marred with chaos and death at the beginning of the year, 2024.

In just 14 days into the year, two deaths were reported in alleged Air bnbs around Nairobi city.

In January, two murder cases were reported to have happened in Air bnbs.

Along Thika Road, a 24-year-old female body was found stuffed in a paper bag.

The woman was stabbed and chopped in an apartment along TRM Drive.

The TRM Drive incident came eight days after a suspect was arrested in connection with the brutal murder of socialite Starlet Wahu Mwangi.

Wahu's body was found in an Airbnb in South B, Nairobi.

She and the suspected murderer had been seen getting into the Airbnb on January 3 at night.
