Nairobi Governor Johnson Sakaja has been evacuated from Toi Market in Kibra as residents were seen throwing stones at him.

In a video seen by the Star on Saturday, people were heard heckling at him as stones were thrown his way.

His security had to resort to shielding the governor as he left the market.

Sakaja had visited the market following the inferno this morning.

The blaze, believed to have started around 4 am on Saturday, is suspected to have been caused by an electrical fault.

"An electric fault in one of the wooden houses caused the fire early this morning," one of the traders said.

Four people were reported to be burnt beyond recognition following a fire that razed down Toi market.

A child was among the four. The victims were attempting to save their belongings when they were overpowered by the flames.

The blaze affected at least 2,000 traders, leaving many counting their losses.

Toi Market chair Kenneth Jumba said he suspects the fire was started intentionally.

"We have never received the report on what caused the fire that we experienced last year. We are used to them," Kenneth said.

Firefighters from Nairobi County Government arrived hours later as the fire spread fast.

This is not the first time the market has gone down in flames. The market has become prone to frequent fires.
