Energy and Petroleum Cabinet Secretary nominee Opiyo Wandayi has stated that the concerns raised by youths through the anti-government protests are the same issues the Opposition has been raising.

The CS nominee spoke when he appeared before the Committee on Appointments in Parliament.

Wandayi was answering a question by Kathiani MP Robert Mbui.

Mbui sought an answer from Wandayi over allegations that the nominees from the opposition side had taken advantage of the Gen Z protests for them to join the government.

“I am clear in my mind. The Gen Zs were not raising any different issues from the issues we have raised before. Therefore it is not proper to say we have taken advantage of the Gen Z demos to get into government,” he said.

"The issues that Gen Z were raising were very pertinent issues which must be dealt with. I still maintain the view that we are not in any way in betrayal of the youth. We are coming on board in a paradigm shift."

If picked, Wandayi will replace Davis Chirchir who was the CS in the dissolved Cabinet.

Wandayi has been serving the National Assembly in the capacity of the Leader of the Minority Party.

He holds a Masters in Business Administration, from Jomo Kenyatta University of Agriculture and Technology.
