Gender Cabinet Secretary nominee Stella Soi Lang'at has said her experience over 29 years has made her resilient and able to work in the Ministry of Gender.

Lang'at told the Committee on Appointments that she has built a career in public administration working in several ministries.

She said she has served in public service for 29 years, in the central government.

Lang'at served in various ministries including the State Department of Public Service, and the Labour Department and was part of the team setting up the State Department of Gender in 2004.

She has had various capacity-building training in mediation, conflict management and peacebuilding.

Lang'at has served in different regions including Nyanza, Eastern and South Rift Valley regions.

She has also worked in institutional building while working at the Office of the Attorney General, as she was part of the team setting up a witness protection agency, which is one of its kind in Eastern Central Africa.

"I want to believe that gave me an opportunity to interact with issues of Gender-Based Violence and the need to protect witnesses for purposes of ensuring that there is success in prosecution and to strengthen the administrative Justice system," she said.

Lang'at was part of a team setting up county governments and became the first interim county secretary for the Narok County Government.

She also participated in issues of ensuring that girls are protected from repugnant cultural practices while serving in the county government of Bomet.

"Those experiences have assisted me in building resilience and also interacting with the environment where GBV is rampant and where interventions are required to strengthen the fight against GBV," she said.

She said her experience in field administration has assisted her in building resilience, courage and sacrifice, which are the pertinence requirements for leadership in the Ministry of Gender.
