Dry spell to hit most parts of the country this week - Met

Sunny conditions and relatively warm daytime temperatures will be experienced over most parts of the country, the weatherman has said.

This is according to a forecast covering August 6, 2024 to August 12, 2024.

"Sunny conditions and relatively warm daytime temperatures are expected over most parts of the country during the first half of the forecast period," the forecast says.

The sunny condition is expected to give way to intermittent cold and cloudy conditions over some parts of the Highlands East and West of the Rift Valley, the Southeastern lowlands and the Rift Valley.

Kenya Meteorological Department also said rainfall is expected to continue over some parts of the Highlands East and West of the Rift Valley, North-western Kenya, the Rift Valley and the Coast.

The rest of the country is likely to be generally dry.

High average daytime (maximum)temperatures of more than 30 degrees Celsius will be experienced in some parts of the Coast, North-eastern and North-western Kenya.

"Average night-time (minimum) temperatures will be low (less than 10 degrees Celsius) over some parts of the Highlands East of the Rift Valley, the South-eastern lowlands and the Rift Valley," it says.

The Highlands West of the Rift Valley and the Rift Valley (Kisii, Nyamira, Nandi, Kericho, Bomet, Kakamega, Vihiga, Bungoma, Siaya, Kisumu, Homabay, Busia, Migori, Narok, Baringo, Nakuru, Trans-Nzoia, Uasin-Gishu, Elgeyo-Marakwet and West-Pokot Counties) will have morning rains as well as afternoon and night showers and thunderstorms are expected over few places.

The Lake Victoria Basin (Siaya, Kisumu, Homabay, Busia and Migori Counties)will have sunny intervals during the day while nights are likely to be partly cloudy though occasional afternoon showers and thunderstorms may occur over a few places.

North-western Kenya (Turkana and Samburu Counties) will have morning rains as well as afternoon and night showers and thunderstorms are expected over a few places occasionally spreading to several places during the first half of the forecast period.

The Highlands East of the Rift Valley (including Nairobi County) (Nyandarua, Laikipia, Nyeri, Kirinyaga, Murang'a, Kiambu, Meru, Embu, Tharaka-Nithi and Nairobi Counties) will have intermittent cloudiness, with light rains over few places in the mornings giving way to sunny intervals.

"The afternoon and night will be characterised by showers over few (mostly high ground) areas," the forecast says.

North-eastern Kenya (Marsabit, Mandera, Wajir, Garissa and Isiolo Counties) are expected to have sunny intervals during the day while nights are likely to be partly cloudy.

"However, morning rains as well as afternoon and night showers may occur over some parts of Marsabit County during the first half of the forecast period," the weatherman says.

The Southeastern lowlands (Machakos, Kitui, Makueni, Kajiado and Taita-Taveta Counties) will have occasional cloudiness in the morning giving way to sunny intervals.

Kenya Met said the nights are likely to be partly cloudy.

At the Coast (Mombasa, Tana-River, Kilifi, Lamu and Kwale Counties), morning and afternoon showers are expected over few places occasionally spreading to several places. Nights are likely to be partly cloudy.
