New era for new CSs as Kenyan flag is affixed on their vehicles after oath

Once a CS concluded taking an oath, the Kenyan flag was mounted on his or her vehicle almost immediately.

A notable sight was observed Thursday morning at State House as newly appointed cabinet secretaries took the oath of office.

President William Ruto presided over the ceremony.

Outside the venue, officials were seen diligently affixing official flags to the newly assigned vehicles of the cabinet members.

The flags, which denote the official status and position of the cabinet secretaries are a symbol of their new roles within the government.

Cabinet Secretaries draw the privilege to fly the national flags on their official vehicles from the National Flag, Emblems and Names (Amendment) Act 2014.

Section 4A of the Act stipulates that the President, Deputy President, Chief Justice and the speakers of the National Assembly and Senate are the only state officers allowed to fly the flag.

The first to take his oath of office was Interior and National Administration CS Kithure Kindiki.

He was followed by Defence CS Soipan Tuya, John Mbadi (National Treasury), Justin Muturi (Public Service) and Aden Duale (Environment, Climate Change and Forestry).

Lands CS Alice Wahome was next to take the oath, followed by Julius Ogamba (Education), Davis Chirchir (Transport), and Rebecca Miano (Tourism and Wildlife).

Hassan Joho (Mining, Blue Economy and Maritime affairs), Alfred Mutua (Labour and Social Protection), Eric Muuga (Water and Sanitation), Salim Mvurya (Investment, Trade and Industry), Debra Barasa (Health) and Kipchumba Murkomen (Youth Affairs and Sports) also followed respectively.
