Butere MP Tindi Mwale has asked security agencies to tame a gang calling its 'Jeshi Jinga' accused of terrorising residents in the area.

The group reportedly killed two members of a vigilante group formed to help residents of a village ward off the gang members.

Mwale visited families of those killed at Emureko village where tension is high after many residents fled from their homes due to insecurity.

"I visited Emureko village within my constituency to condole with families that lost their loved ones due to criminal activities led by a gang,” the MP said.

Mwale assured residents that the national security apparatus have been deployed to restore and maintain law and order.

"We are working with security teams to ensure that that such cases of insecurity will be a tale of the past and our people will be safe,” Mwale said.

The emergence of the gang has sent shivers down villagers' spines and forced some of them to seek refuge in police stations at night.

Those killed were part of a vigilante group formed in the area to help residents fight off night attackers.

The gang has been terrorising residents in the villages of Emureko, Emulambo, Evukolwe, Shikulusi and Shinamwinyule in the Butere constituency.

At the same time, Mwale urged the youth, commonly referred to as the Gen Z, across the country to stop their demonstrations and give the recently constituted broad-based government to deliver on their demands.

“Most of our people in major cities and the counties have fallen victim to these demonstrations, pulling back economic activities across the country,” Mwale said.

He urged the youth to cherish peace and stability of the country.
