On Monday, August 5, detectives launched investigations into a dramatic and tragic incident where a suspect was shot and killed in a suspected attempt to break into the official Kenya Police central stores in Nairobi.

The store keeps major police items including uniforms, boots, berets, teargas canisters, buttons and other equipment.

The shooting took place on Sunday night, August, 4, when one of the police officers on duty said he heard a commotion in one of the store rooms.

The officer told his superiors he alerted his colleagues after realising the commotion could be the work of a thief and they all moved to where it emanated.

The team said they found one unknown male adult who was armed with a crude weapon breaking the store.

They said they challenged him to surrender but the suspect defied and tried to escape on foot during the 9pm incident.

Police said a Kenya police beret and a communication gadget that was allegedly stolen from the same store was recovered from the man after his shooting.

Senior officers visited the scene and moved the body to the mortuary.

28-year-old stabbed to death during a scuffle in bar

Police are in pursuit of a suspect who stabbed a 28-year-old lady to death in a bar scuffle, in Chuka, Meru county on Monday morning.

Security at the pub stumbled on the body of Karimi Wangi hours after she had died.

Police visited the scene and found the body with a deep wound on the left side of the neck.

It was established that the deceased was in the company of her boyfriend in the bar when a fight ensued between them and the suspect stabbed her and fled to an unknown destination.

The cause of the fight was not immediately established.

Police moved the body to Chuka County Referral Hospital mortuary for preservation and postmortem even as the hunt for the suspect continues.

Police spoke to the club management and witnesses as part of the probe into the tragedy.

Six suspected robbers arrested

On Tuesday, August 6, police arrested six suspected robbers and recovered six police communication gadgets from them in Ruaka area, Kiambu county.

Police said they also recovered two toy pistols from the men during the morning incident.

Kiambaa Subcounty Police Commander Pius Mwanthi said the men had attempted to break into a house at about 11am when an alarm was raised.

He said the group had gone to an apartment in the area thinking the occupants were not in.

“Luckily the occupants were in the house and when they realised so, they ran downstairs as an alarm was raised,” he said.

Mwanthi added that the group rushed out and jumped onto an oncoming matatu that was headed for Nairobi.

Police on patrol were alerted and circulated the matatu’s details.

He said the matatu was intercepted a few meters away and the men flushed out.

The suspects are aged between 20 and 27 years.

The police boss said they also recovered house-breaking equipment from the suspects.

They were all booked in custody pending arraignment.

Body of woman found on the roadside in Karen

Police are investigating an incident where the body of a woman was found lying on the roadside off Ngong Road in Karen, Nairobi.

The body was discovered on the evening of August 6 by pedestrians long after the woman had apparently died.

Police said the body had no visible injuries.

However, the team that visited the scene at the border of Ngong and Karen and near a bar said there was a crutches next to the body.

It was not clear whether the deceased was a person with disabilities, police said.

A kitchen knife with no blood marks, a pair of rubber shoes and a red scarf were also recovered beside the body.

Investigators said the victim looked about 50 years old.

Police suspect the woman was killed elsewhere and the body dumped at the scene. The motive of the murder was not immediately established, police said.

Nairobi police boss Adamson Bungei said they are open to all theories on the possible cause of the death including murder, natural death and even suicide.

“We do not know what happened for now. We are open to all theories,” he said.
