Detectives are investigating an incident in which a man brutally murdered his wife before dying by suicide in Mosoriot, Nandi County.
The bodies of the couple were found in their house as their four-month-old baby cried for attention in the Thursday night incident.
Police said the incident happened in Kipkongorwa area in Lelmokwo Location.
Police visited the scene and established that Ivyine Cheptoo had been murdered by her husband in their bedroom in a two-roomed house by chopping off her head using a panga.
The body was found lying in a pool of blood long after the incident.
The body of the man identified as Nathan Kipkoech Mibei was found hanging on a rafter of the house.
He had used a wire to hang himself, police said.
He spared their four-month-old baby boy, police said adding they moved the bodies to the mortuary.
The murder weapon was recovered beside the baby.
The motive of the murder-suicide incident is yet to be established, police said.
Elsewhere in Kibera slums, Nairobi, police are investigating an incident in which a man died after allegedly being assaulted by people known to him.
David Otieno who is a casual worker in the area was called on the phone by people known to him and wanted to discuss unknown pending issues.
He told his wife on August 4 that he was leaving to meet his friends at an unknown location.
He came back few hours later in pain and crying he had been beaten up.
The wife told police he had a swollen head and was rushed to Kenyatta National Hospital where he was admitted in critical condition.
He however succumbed to the injuries on Friday, August 9.
The body was moved to the mortuary pending autopsy and other investigations.
Police said they are now investigating murder in connection with the death of the man.
No arrest has been made so far.
