The 2024 Olympic Marathon Bronze medalist Hellen Obiri has thanked Kenyans for giving the team great support.
In a statement after she came third in the last track event of the games, Obiri noted Kenya has closed the Olympics with 11 medals.
"Bronze medal it is. Our run at the Olympics has ended and we have finished with 11 medals in total. Thank you Kenya for your great Support," Obiri said on X.
Team Kenya has four gold medals, two silver and five bronze medals.
Ethiopia-born Dutch Sifan Hassan broke the Olympic Record to win the Women's marathon race.
Ethiopia's Tigst Assefa took second place in the race.
After the race, President William Ruto said that despite facing tough opponents, Obiri had shown the Kenyan spirit in the athletics,
"Congratulations Hellen Obiri for the Bronze medal in the Paris 2024 Olympic marathon. Despite facing formidable contenders, you kept pushing, exemplifying the unbeatable Kenyan spirit in the sport," the President said.
Ruto added that the entire country is proud of Team Kenya's performance in the Paris, Olympics.
"Shout out to the entire Team Kenya for the well-deserved top position in Africa. We are proud of you. Hongera!"
Wiper leader Kalonzo Musyoka said Obiri had participated in an extraordinary race and mad ethe country proud.
"Hellen Obiri, what an extraordinary race you ran this morning. With your season's best, you clinched the Women's Marathon Bronze medal. You make all of us proud to be Kenyan."
