President William Ruto has told off critics of the high cost of living, insisting that prices of things are now going down.

Speaking at Joyland village on Saturday, Ruto said that the people who were shouting over the price of maize flour being high are now quiet.

He said that it is because they don't know what he did to reduce the cost of Unga, which he said is now at Sh100.

The President explained that it is because of the hard work by the people of Kirinyaga and other farmers.

He commended Kirinyaga residents for using the subsidised fertiliser to plant food in their farms when his administration made the call.

Ruto said their efforts have enabled the country to have more food and the cost of living is now going down.

"I thank you people of Kirinyaga because you are hardworking. When we reduced the price of fertilizer you went back to your farms, planted and produced food for us. Now the price of maize flour is at Sh100.

"Those people who were shouting 'Unga' are now quiet, they don't know what I did. You (farmers) are their medicine. The prices of food are reduced, the cost of living has gone down and I want to appreciate you. You are hardworking people and continue putting in the work in your farms," the President said.

Ruto reaffirmed his administration's continued efforts to ensure farmers in Kirinyaga and the entire country have access to quality and affordable fertilizer.

He said his government is also working to streamline the coffee, tea and milk sectors in Central region to ensure farmers get good returns from their produce.

"We will ensure you continue getting fertilizer at reduced prices and we will always support you because Kenya is an agricultural country."

The Head of State was in Kirinyaga County on Saturday where he launched and broke ground for several projects.
