A high-level Senate delegation led by Clerk Jeremiah Nyegenye is in Busia county to assess its preparedness to host the fourth Senate 'Mashinani' Sittings.

The county is scheduled to host sittings, including plenary and committees, next month.

The sittings will be held between September 23 and 27.

In their visit, the Senate team is assessing key facilities including the Assembly chamber that will host senate plenary sittings.

The team was received by the Busia County Assembly speaker Fredrick Wafula and acting Clerk Gabriel Arambo.

"The outcome that we want to make sure that this Senate Mashinani works," speaker Wafula said.

The senate team, alongside their Busia county assembly counterpart, are assessing key facilities to ensure they are fit and in good condition to host the Senators.

In the Chamber, the team is checking the condition and number of seats, lighting, lavatories, sound system, access to the public and holding rooms for CSs who will be appearing before the senate plenary.

"Colleagues, I want you to see this as our senate chambers and raise any concerns that you might have," Nyegenye said.

The team is also checking the condition of various offices that will host Speaker Amason Kingi, house leaders, Senators and senior senate staff.

Later, the team will visit various hotel facilities in the county to assess their condition and safety to host Senators.

This will be the fourth sitting of the Senate outside the capital Nairobi, otherwise known as Senate Mashinani.

Last year, the Senate held its sittings in Turkana county.

The first and second senate sittings outside Nairobi were held in Uasin Gishu and Kitui respectively.
