Two major projects will mark President William Ruto's three-day visit to Gusii region beginning Monday.

They include the Tuesday groundbreaking ceremony for a cancer Centre treatment facility on the outskirts of Kisii.

The project has been lying in limbo for years awaiting the completion of paperwork between the government and the lender.

It will cost Sh3 billion.

The second project involves the flagging of the construction of a key interchange at Daraja Mbili in Kisii town.

The interchange, once completed is billed as a game changer in the improving infrastructure in the region.

Kitutu Chache South MP Anthony Kibagendi said the interchange forms part of the final stages for the construction of the multi-billion Kisii - Ahero - Kisumu road and the Kisii - Rongo - Migori Highway.

Already the upgrade of the 172km highway has opened up several towns and market centres along the corridor.

The road connects Northern Tanzania to Uganda and South Sudan through Kisumu,

In Nyaribari Chache where the cancer centre is to be set up, MP Zaheer Jhanda said the residents of Gusii and the larger parts of Nyanza would immensely benefit from the health facility once completed.

"We anticipate its completion at a significantly shorter period and be operationalized soon because the funding is available," he told journalists at Keumbu late Monday as he drummed up support for the president ahead of his three-day tour of the region.

The cancer centre will serve the South Western Subregion whose total population is about 10 million people., Jhanda stated.

It will promote early diagnosis and management of cancer and reduce the burden of treatment among the residents.

President Ruto will do the groundbreaking of the facility on Tuesday with the flurry of tours shifting between Kisii and Nyamira Counties in the three days.

He will spend time at the Kisii State Lodge

At Kiabonyoru in Nyamira, the President would lay the foundation block for the construction of an administrative block at the Kiabonyoru Mixed Secondary School.

At the Nyangeni area in Nyaribari Chache, he will launch the last mile electricity connectivity before heading to the spot opposite Kisii to do the groundbreaking function for the cancer Centre.

At Ichuni in Nyaribari Masaba, President Ruto will do the groundbreaking function for the construction of affordable housing.

The project is located in the Ekerubo Area.

Area MP Daniel Manduku will host him.

The president is further set to commission a new block at Keroka Hospital in Kitutu Masaba which has been under construction for the last five years.

At the Sombogo area of Kitutu Chache North and in Riakarani in Bonchari, both in Kisii, the President will do last-mile connectivity launches.
