Former Bahati MP Kimani Ngunjiri has said the Mt Kenya region will need its party in the run-up to 2027 elections to fight for its interests.
The former MP has claimed the region entered into the Kenya Kwanza coalition without a written agreement which he said has put it at a disadvantage.
He stated that the region overwhelmingly supported the Kenya Kwanza coalition but had little to show for it.
Ngunjiri who spoke at Riandegwa ACK church in Kandara said it's time for the region to establish a strong political vehicle that will ensure its interests are safeguarded after 2027.
“Mt Kenya supported the Kenya Kwanza coalition overwhelmingly but our loyalty has not paid benefits because we did not have a strong party,” he said.
The former MP said the votes-rich region should unite and devise ways of helping it forge forward past the next elections.
“It does not matter who will vie for the top seat. Let everybody look for support and afterwards, we can all sit and negotiate and then whoever we decide to vote for, let’s vote for them as a block,” he said.
He said disunity has continuously foiled attempts for the region to fight for the One Man One Vote One Shilling system of resource allocation that would see more funds allocated to the populous region.
“Other people that we were fighting for Ruto during campaigns are now in government. What’s the use of staying loyal? Having one strong party can only work if there’s absolute transparency,” he added.
Ngunjiri further appealed to the president to control some of his foot soldiers who have been attacking Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua and plotting his ouster.
He said Gachagua, being the topmost leader in the region, enjoys a lot of support from residents and should therefore be accorded the necessary respect.
In April this year, the former MP announced his departure from the UDA party claiming there was no appreciation within its ranks.
