President William Ruto will today begin his three-day tour in the Kisii and Nyamira Counties.

This comes days after he toured Murang'a County where he launched several development projects.

This is the first time the President is going to the Nyanza region since crafting his broad-based government that retained the influential Education docket in the region.

The President is using the regional tours to pacify the ground following weeks of spirited countrywide anti-government protests.

CJ Koome prisons decongestion initiative

Chief Justice Martha Koome will today preside over the Prisons Decongestion Initiative.

The event will be held at Nairobi Remand and Allocation Maximum Security Prison-Industrial Area, Nairobi.

In 2023, Koome directed that petty and first-time offenders will no longer serve custodial sentences, in a bid to decongest prisons.

"Over-utilisation of custodial sentences without consideration of the overarching objectives of sentencing has been linked to high recidivism rates and overcrowding in prisons – with the obvious resource implications," Koome said in a Gazette notice.

Duale to take over Ministry of Environment

Environment, Climate Change and Forestry CS Aden Duale will on Monday take over from his predecessor Soipan Tuya at the NHIF Building.

Duale was sworn in for the duty on Thursday, alongside 18 other Cabinet Secretaries.

Tuya is now the Defence CS, a docket which was formerly held by Duale.

Threats by airport workers to strike over proposed JKIA-Adani Deal

The Kenya Aviation Workers Union is today expected to issue a seven-day strike notice to the government.

This is as it moves to oppose the proposal by Adani Airport Holdings to take over management of the Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (JKIA).
