President William has pledged to construct a university at Kiabonyoru in Nyamira county.

The President said that he has decided to donate Sh500 million for the construction of the university after consulting with the area MP.

"Let us continue to build a university here at Kiabonyoru and that is on period. We have decided that the project should come to Nyamira because you have enough land," he said.

The President said that he will personally inspect the foundation of the project before the end of this year.

He further urged the residents to support all the leaders to ensure development is achieved.

Ruto is currently on a three-day working tour of Kisii and Nyamira counties.

The President laid the foundation stone for the Kiabonyoru Secondary School dormitory in North Mugirango.

Ruto said he will preside over major projects that will mark his three-day visit.

One of the projects involves the flagging of the construction of a key interchange at Daraja Mbili in Kisii town.

The interchange, once completed, has been billed as a game changer in improving infrastructure in the region.

Kitutu Chache South MP, Anthony Kibagendi, said the interchange forms part of the final stages for the construction of the multi-billion Kisii-Ahero-Kisumu road and the Kisii-Rongo-Migori highway.

Already, the upgrade of the 172km highway has opened up several towns and market centres along the corridor.

The road connects northern Tanzania to Uganda and South Sudan through Kisumu.

In Nyaribari Chache where the cancer centre is to be set up, MP Zaheer Jhanda said the residents of Gusii and the larger parts of Nyanza would immensely benefit from the health facility once completed.

"We anticipate its completion at a significantly shorter period and be operationalised soon because the funding is available," he told journalists at Keumbu late Monday as he drummed up support for the President ahead of his three-day tour of the region.
