President William Ruto is this week heading to Kisii and Nyamira counties for a three-day working tour after traversing Mt Kenya region.
This is the first time the President is going to Nyanza region since crafting his broad-based government that retained the influential Education docket in the region.
In his reconstituted Cabinet, Ruto replaced former Education Cabinet Secretary Ezekiel Machogu with his 2022 running mate Migosi Ogamba at Jogoo House.
The President is using the regional tours to pacify the ground following weeks of spirited countrywide anti-government protests.
Since naming his broad-based government, the President has been to at least 10 counties.
They include Tharaka Nithi, Mombasa, Kwale, Tana River, Kilifi, Taita Taveta, Baringo, Embu, Murang'a and Kirinyaga.
The President, who left the country on Sunday to attend Rwandan President Paul Kagame’s inauguration, is expected to land in Kisii at 4pm.
The tour will run through to Wednesday, according to Kisii leaders who spoke to the Star.
As a preparation for the whirlwind tour, Ruto last Thursday hosted Kisii MPs and Governor Simba Arati at State House.
North Mugirango MP Joash Nyamoko confirmed the President will tour the region.
"It is true we shall be hosting the President for a development tour of the region," he said.
The President is expected to begin his tour in Nyamira on Monday afternoon hosted by North Mugirango MP Joash Nyamoko.
He will launch Kiabonyoru Secondary School funded by the Kuwaiti government and announce the establishment of Nyamira University.
The President will then fly to Nyaribari Chache constituency of UDA’s Zaheer Jihanda for the commissioning of a last-mile power project at Nyang’eni village in Birongo ward.
On Tuesday, the President will still be in Nyaribari Chache where he will launch the Kisii cancer centre near Kisii School.
After that, Ruto will move to Kitutu Masaba constituency in Nyamira county to launch another Kuwaiti project at Nyasumi Primary School.
In the afternoon, Ruto will be in Kitutu Chache North which is represented by UDA national treasurer Japhet Nyakundi for the launch of the Sombogo tea factory.
The President will then launch the Marani-Sombogo-Kegogi-Ragogo and Bubuuria-Kayole-Bobaracho-Mbanda-Gesieka-Nyakoe roads.
He will also commission the last-mile electricity project in the same area.
Later that day, Ruto will be in Bonyanchara near Nyongore in Kenyoro SDA church, Riana ward, Bonchari constituency.
The President will commission the rural electrification last-mile power connectivity.
On his last day of the tour, Ruto will land in Bomachoge Chache constituency represented by Alpha Miruka for the launch of the affordable housing project in Ogembo town.
He will then head to National Assembly Majority Whip Sylvanus Osoro’s South Mugirango constituency for the launch of the Nduru-Nyakorere-Matangamano-Nyabigena road.
The President will commission Mokoma REREC last mile power connectivity and unveil the Nyamarambe-Gesonso centre streetlights.
He will then launch Etago market in South Mugirango constituency before commissioning the last-mile power connectivity at Riasuta and Kebabe.
The President will return to North Mugirango constituency to launch the Ikonge last-mile connectivity.
He will later land in Patrick Osero’s Borabu Constituency in the Kineni area, where he will launch the Amakara-Kineni-Isoge-Kahawa roads.
The tours follow a three-day tour of Central Kenya where the President launched a number of projects in Embu and Murang’a counties.
While in Murang’a the Head of State extinguished political fires against his deputy, telling the area MPs to abandon the planned impeachment of Rigathi Gachagua.
Gachagua, seen as aspiring to be the Mt Kenya political kingpin and an ally of former President Uhuru Kenyatta, has been at odds with Ruto on various policy matters.
Most notably, he opposed portions of Ruto's unpopular Finance Bill, aligning himself with the majority of Kenyans protesting new tax measures that have since been dropped.
There have been reports of an impeachment motion being plotted against the Deputy President but which has since been shunted to the back burner.
