Democratic Action Party of Kenya (DAP-K) leader Eugene Wamalwa has hinted at his party leaving the Azimio coalition.

This comes after members of the coalition, the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) agreed to work with President William Ruto's administration.

According to Wamalwa, one cannot be in government and be in the Opposition at the same time.

"You cannot be the incumbent and opposition... this is where we have reached and we are in the process of seeing whether we can resolve this issue or divorce," he said on Spice FM.

The former Defence CS noted other parties within the Azimio coalition have already issued their notices to exit and his party could issue the next very soon.

The parties include Narc Kenya and the Party of National Unity (PNU).

Wamalwa insisted that Azimio as a coalition has lost direction, saying the Opposition outfit has also sinned against the people of Kenya.

"Martha Karua was here he has given notice, Peter Munya was here he has also given notice. Very soon Eugene and DAP will give notice. I can tell you as Azimio we have lost direction.

"We have sinned against the people of Kenya and fallen short of the glory but we are doing something about it and very soon you will hear from us," he added.

The DAP-K leader noted that it is time the coalition partners parted ways.

He also described the decision by ODM to work with the government as a betrayal of the highest order.

"For us Azimio to go into bed with William Ruto is betrayal of the highest order and this is why as we sit here today, in Azimio, we have reached a point of divorce. In a marriage when grounds for divorce arise, one of those is when you have irreconcilable differences," Wamalwa said.

His remarks come after Martha Karua-led Narc Kenya issued notice to exit from the Azimio la Umoja One Kenya coalition.

The decision was communicated in a letter addressed to the coalition secretary-general Junet Mohammed by Narc Kenya's acting secretary general Asha Bashir.

“Kindly take note that our stay in Azimio la Umoja One Kenya Coalition is not tenable due to the prevailing political developments,” she said.

“As NARC Kenya by way of this letter, we are giving notice to exit the Coalition as stipulated in the exit clause (s) in the Coalition Agreement. This notice is effective from the date of this letter,” she added.

The Party of National Unity (PNU) had also announced its intention to exit the Azimio coalition.

Party leader Peter Munya disclosed that the party’s National Executive Council (NEC) would convene to decide about its stay in the coalition.

He said the Raila Odinga-led party cannot be in government and at the same time remain in the opposition hence the need to disassociate.

“They (ODM) have said they want to be in the government and for some of us who want to be in the opposition, we must bolt out so that we can continue fighting for the people of Kenya,” he said.

“The way our constitution is structured is such that there have to be two sides, there are people in government and people supposed to be in the opposition, you cannot be in both places,” he said.

He also challenged Raila and other coalition partners to declare their stance if they are still in the opposition or have joined the government side.
