Elgeyo Marakwet leaders have pleaded with ODM leader Raila Odinga to ensure exiled former IEBC commissioner Irene Masit returns home.
They spoke during the funeral of Masit’s father Mzee Chirchir Masit at Chepkorio in Elgeyo Marakwet county.
The plea was made by politicians in the area led by politician Micah Kigen who is also a friend of the family of the deceased.
“Our ODM leader we know you have all the details of what happened with the Cherera four during the elections and you know where Irene Masit is currently,” said Kigen.
He said now that Raila was working with President William Ruto, they should both ensure Irene Masit returns home.
Kigen said as an IEBC commissioner Masit did her democratic right and should be helped to return home.
The same plea for Irene’s return was made by former MPs Daniel Rono and Jackson Kipatunui.
Rono said there was nothing serious about Irene’s exit from the country and she should feel free to return home.
“Nobody actually chased her away and we believe she is just out for a visit and she would return,” said Rono.
The ex-IEBC commissioner fled following disputes over the results of the last elections.
Mzee Masit will be laid to rest in her absence.
“She is not here to bury her father but we plead that she be helped to return home,” said Kigen
