Businessman Jimi Wanjigi has claimed that he was inside his home when police raided his Muthaiga house on Thursday last week.

A multi-agency team raided his home in what they termed as looking for more evidence.

The team had camped outside the house seeking to get into the compound for hours before they finally broke in.

However, the police did not find him by midnight.

While speaking on Tuesday, Wanjigi said he was inside his home the entire time police were after him.

He, however, did not reveal more information about his whereabouts.

"Yes, I was inside my home but beyond that, I will not tell you where and how and what there is in my home," he said during an interview with Citizen TV.

Wanjigi said that he watched police as they raided his home and claimed they threatened his family.

While addressing the media a day after the police raid Wanjigi said that police raided his home in Nairobi because he took part in the Nane Nane protests on Thursday.

Wanjigi said he went to the streets to offer support to Gen Z but his presence was short because police targeted him.

“We were there for barely five minutes. We were teargassed like you cannot believe. Driving from town, we were chased to this home which has been under siege since that time,” he said.

He claimed police committed crimes at his home in the name of looking for him.

“Stop looking for me in my house, you will never find me. Seven years ago, they looked for me in this house and they could not find me. Even now, if you look for me in this house you will not find me. Please, don’t do it again. You will be wasting your time,” he added.

Wanjigi said the police should just issue a summon if they want him for questioning.

“If you want me, just issue a simple summons and I will appear where you want me. Stop looking for me in this house, you will never find me, never. Please sisi si wanjinga (we are not fools). We were not born yesterday,” he said.

Police told journalists late Thursday afternoon that they recovered tear gas canisters from his alleged car that was found parked at the entrance to his home.

Wanjigi denied owning the vehicle in which the items were allegedly recovered.

He obtained a court order on Friday barring police from arresting him or restricting his movement.
