Woman, her four sons among 5 killed in Nakuru road accident

The driver, believed to be the father of the children, sustained serious injuries.

Five family members have died in an accident in the Mbaruk area along the Nakuru-Nairobi highway.

The five include a woman and her four children, all sons.

The accident occurred at 7am when a Mercedes car driven by a man identified as Christopher Ambani heading to Nakuru.

Police believe the five killed are Ambani's family members.

The lorry was heading towards Nairobi.

Gigil area OCPD Jamlek Ngaruiya says the driver of the Mercedes car was overtaking leading to the head-on collision.

“The woman and the children died on the spot while Ambani was rushed to St Joseph hospital where he was admitted,  said the OCPD.

“We visited the scene and moved the bodies to a morgue in Nakuru”, he said.

According to the driver of the lorry, Morris Wahome, the personal car was driving at a high speed.

"Hiyo gari ilikua spidi sana na ilikua imeovertake nikamhepa. Sasa akakuja pahali niko hapa kando ya barabara; huku kwa nyasi (The car was being driven at a high speed. The driver was overtaking at that high speed forcing me to avoid colliding with him by driving towards the roadside. But he ended up in my direction too)," he said.

"Pole sana kwa familia (I say sorry to the family)."

He said he was heading to Nairobi while the personal car was head towards the opposite direction.
