Democratic Action Party of Kenya (DAP-K) leader Eugene Wamalwa has distanced himself from the formation of the broad-based government between President William Ruto and ODM leader Raila Odinga.

The move by Ruto and Azimio leader Raila has drawn mixed reactions from leaders and Kenyans alike.

However, the two leaders have maintained that there is a need for a government of unity.

Wamalwa was referring to Jubilee Party Secretary General Jeremiah Kioni's remarks dismissing allegations that former President Uhuru Kenyatta played a role in the formation of a broad-based government.

This is after Raila claimed Uhuru asked him to talk to Ruto to resolve the crisis caused by Gen Z protests.

However, Kioni on Wednesday alleged that the information by Raila on Uhuru was inaccurate.

While echoing the sentiments of Kioni, Wamalwa said that Azimio was not a party to the decision to form the broad-based government.

"l wish to confirm my concurrence with Jeremiah Kioni's position that the broad-based/nusu-mkate government was neither formed with the knowledge or blessings of Uhuru Kenyatta, Jubilee Party, DAP-K, Wiper Party, PNU Party, KANU Party and other Azimio affiliates but was purely a deal between UDA Kenya, ODM Party leaders President William Ruto and Azimio leader Raila Odinga. We are not a party to it," he said.

Several leaders have come out to publicly oppose the move terming it as 'betrayal' to the people.

According to Kioni, Raila made a wrong decision to form the broad-based government claiming it does not address issues of Kenyans.

Kioni said that the decision to join the government happened a while back and has only come into play now.

"Uhuru did communicate to Kenyans through his letter on July 25 that he was concerned. If you want to know his thinking and position and why you have to be careful about what Raila said and what I hold to be untrue and is not accurate then you know that what Raila said was a misleading position," he said.

On Monday, Wamalwa said the coalition working with Ruto is a betrayal.

He said while this is the case, a member of the coalition (ODM) has agreed to work with the current administration, a move they disagree with.

He explained that just like a marriage, they have disagreed on principles, which makes it an irreconcilable difference and because of this it is time they parted ways.

"For us Azimio to go into bed with William Ruto is betrayal of the highest order and this is why as we sit here today, in Azimio, we have reached a point of divorce. In a marriage when grounds for divorce arise, one of those is when you have irreconcilable differences," he said.

He, however, noted that talks are ongoing between Azimio coalition partners to see that this has been resolved.
