Kikuyu Council of Elders has put the government on the spot over stalled projects and the ailing economy.

The Kiama Kia Maa elders accused top officials of concentrating in petty politics of impeaching Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua at the expense of Kenyans.

They said impeaching Gachagua is a recipe for chaos.

The council’s director of culture Kigochi Waimiri said for the past two years, government's projects have stalled.

He said no capital project has been completed due to politics and sideshows.

Kenya Kwanza officials have been feuding in the past few weeks after President William Ruto formed a broad-based government with ODM.

“Kenyans are suffering yet the people we elected are fighting each other instead of working,” Waimiri said.

He spoke in Naivasha in the company of other elders.

“In the ballot paper, there was the President's name and the DP's. This means they are joined at the hip and no one can go home and leave the other,” Waimiri said.

Joseph Thiong’o called for the completion of the previous government's projects.

He said the many corruption cases in nearly all the ministries should also be tamed.

“There is no single capital project going on in the past two years, yet the government is keen to increase and collect taxes,” Thiong'o said.

Ng’era Waforo decried rising cases of suicide among the youth, terming the trend worrying.

He attributed the cases to the harsh economic times, abuse of drugs and depression.

Students who have completed colleges and universities are the most affected.

“We are calling for a cleansing ceremony on the scenes where these acts of suicide were committed because the deaths are worrying,” he said.
