A seismic movement of magnitude 4.4 has been reported in Los Angeles at 12.20PT.

According to the report, 500,000 earthquakes of magnitude 2.5 to 5.4 occur each year.
A magnitude of less than 2.5 is usually not felt, but can be recorded by seismograph and millions of them are reported each year.
Those of 5.5 to 6.0 magnitude causes slight damage to buildings and other structures, about 350 occurrences are reported each.
Magnitudes 6.1 to 6.9 may cause a lot of damage in very populated areas and about 100 are reported each year.
Those of magnitude 7.0 to 7.9 lead to major earthquakes and serious damage.
Those of magnitude 8.0 or greater are great earthquakes and can destroy communities near the epicentre.
