In a testament to its unwavering dominance, Radio Africa Group has once again reaffirmed its position as Kenya's leading radio network.

According to the latest Kenya Media Landscape report by Realtime Analytics covering the January to July 2024 period, two of the group's radio stations - Radio Jambo and Classic 105 - have emerged as the top most listened-to stations in the country.

Radio Jambo secured the coveted top spot with a listenership of 15.5%, while Classic 105 closely followed in second place with 4.62%.

The report also highlighted the stations' impressive performance in terms of advertising spend share, with Radio Jambo leading at 10.60% and Classic 105 at 6.99%.

Expressing gratitude to the group's loyal listeners, Radio Africa Group Programmes Controller James Njoroge emphasized the company's dedication to providing engaging and quality content.

"We have continued to engage in quality content, and that has been our main focus. This has kept us at the top. Therefore, I can say that quality has enabled us to continue performing well," Njoroge said.

He further added, "We will continue providing our listeners with quality content even as we discuss issues that affect them in their day-to-day engagements." Njoroge also extended his appreciation to the group's clients for their continued support in advertising with the company.

The report noted that the overall advertising expenditure across radio, TV, print, and out-of-home platforms in Kenya decreased by 19% in the first half of 2024 compared to the second half of 2023.

This decline was attributed to several factors, including a media focus on political updates, widespread flooding in April and May, and protests related to the 2024 Finance Bill.

Despite these challenges, Njoroge emphasized that Radio Africa Group has remained a top choice for advertisers.

"We have experienced challenges in advertisements due to the periodic disruptions caused by demonstrations, which make advertisers shy away from advertising. But despite that, we have also remained at the top," he said.

The report further highlighted the exponential growth of the radio industry in Kenya over the last decade, particularly with the rise of vernacular stations broadcasting in local languages.

These stations have gained high audience affinity as listeners often trust messages delivered in their native tongues.

The report also noted the continued dominance of Swahili radio stations, with their extensive nationwide reach, in both listenership and advertising revenue.
