Former Kakamega Senator Cleophas Malalah has accused UDA chairperson Cecily Mbarire and National Assembly Majority Leader Kimani Ichung’wah of plotting his ouster.

Malala whose stay as the UDA Secretary General came to an abrupt end early this month, accused Mbarire and Inchung'wa of scheming to impeach Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua.

“That my ouster by the above officials had nothing to do with incompetence or my inability to ruin the UDA party. It was a well-choreographed script intended to end with the impeachment of Gachagua,” he said.

At first, Malalah revealed, there were attempts to turn him against the DP with whom he enjoys close working relationship.

He, however, absolved President William Ruto from the Gachagua’s ouster plot.

“Let it be known that the planned impeachment of the DP had nothing to do with President William Ruto, the broad-based government or any other narrative the coup-plotters have advanced,” he said.

“The impeachment had everything to do with egocentric 2027 and 2032 politics from the Mt Kenya region and was instigated and propelled by Mbarire and Ichung'wa.”

“These two want our DP out so that they can strategically position themselves within the emerging political re-alignments.”

Malalah demanded that Mbarire and Ichung'wa step aside from their respective positions in the party.

Ichung'wa dismissed Malala's claims, calling him a messenger.

"I don't respond to messengers. The owner of the message can speak and I will respond. Otherwise every market place has its mad man and people must learn to watch them," he said.

Mbarire did not respond to our inquiries by press time.

This is the first time Malala is talking about his ouster.

He has filed a case with the party's Internal Disputes Resolution Committee.

“I confirm my availability for hearing and and presentation of my case as and when is required,” Malala said.

He said he went to the internal body to save the ruling party embarrassment in court.

“This is also because some of the issues raised in my petition are very sensitive, with potential to harm the image of the ruling party if exposed to the public, but I will not hesitate to take the next move if I don’t get justice from the IDRC,” the former lawmaker said.

UDA party's National Executive Committee on August 2 convened and revoked Malalah's appointment as acting secretary general.

This was despite a court order being issued on Thursday, stopping the meeting that was chaired by Mbarire.

Malala was appointed acting UDA secretary general in February last year.

He replaced Veronica Maina who was nominated to the Senate.
