Crimes of the week: Ex-MCA and son abducted in Murang'a as student dies by suicide

Police said the student died in his aunt’s house in Rongai, Nakuru County.

A few minutes to 11 pm on Sunday, a 60-year-old man was abducted from his home in Kairi village in Mathioya sub-county, Murang’a County, by unknown people.

Mystery as gunmen abduct former Murang'a MCA, his son

Joseph Machiri, a former MCA who served from 2013 to 2017 in Murang’a County assembly was abducted by a contingent of men who stormed his house.

The men who were caught on CCTV cameras that are installed in the politician’s homestead had their faces covered and were armed with guns.

Residents of Kairi village in Mathioya sub-county, Murang’a County are reeling in shock after a father and his son were abducted by unknown people.

Some of them were seen carrying gas cylinders believed to have been used to break doors into his house.

His son David Machiri had been abducted hours earlier from his house in the Thogoto area in Kiambu county.

Machiri’s family said the gunmen who were over 10 in number accessed his home minutes before 11 pm, switched off power and took off with him.

Gunmen kill seven in Marsabit County

On Monday night, gunmen shot and killed seven people and torched a lorry they were using in an attack in the Elle Dimtu area of Moyale, Marsabit county.

The area is along the Kenya-Ethiopian border.

Police said two other people were injured in the attack.

Eastern regional police commander Charles Naibei said they were yet to establish the motive.

"We lost five people on the spot and I am told there could be more casualties," he said.

He said the victims were transporting food from the border town to other parts of the country when they were ambushed.

The attackers shot at the lorry before setting it on fire. Two who survived ran out and hid in the thicket.

Police probe murder incident in Kandara, Murang'a

Police this week investigated a murder in an incident where the body of a 19-year-old man was found on a bed with multiple injuries in Kandara, Muranga County.

Police said a huge stone lay on the head of the body when it was discovered on Tuesday morning hours after the murder in Hui Village within Gakarara Sub Location.

A relative found the body of the man identified as Lewis Mwaura Muiruri in his uncle’s house who was working in Murang'a town at that time.

Police said the body had multiple injuries on the head and a large stone on top of his head.

Police said they are investigating to establish if the bed was the primary scene.

The motive of the murder is yet to be known, police handling the matter said.

The body was moved to General Kago Mortuary for postmortem examination.

No arrest has been made yet but detectives are following on the matter.

Police probe death of Form 2 student

Police in Nakuru are investigating the death of a Form 2 student who allegedly died by suicide.

Police said the student died in his aunt’s house in Rongai, Nakuru County.

Witnesses and police said he hanged himself using a rope, which was tied to the roof rafters of the house.

No suicide note was found and the motive is yet to be known.

The body was moved to the mortuary pending postmortem.

Man killed in a scuffle 

A casual labourer was seriously assaulted by an employee of a hotel following a disagreement.

Police said Isaac Wanyonyi succumbed to the injuries in hospital.

Police said the incident happened at a hotel in Kimilili town.

Wanyonyi was rushed to the Kimilili subcounty hospital where he succumbed to his injuries while undergoing treatment.

The police visited the facility and found the victim had suffered burn injuries on his back.

The scene was processed and the body was taken for a postmortem and pending arrest of the suspect.
