Two arrested for allegedly robbing barmaid Sh7000 in Machakos

Police in Yatta, Machakos county are investigating an incident where a barmaid was allegedly robbed Sh7,000 by two men.

Two men were arrested on Saturday in connection with the alleged crime.

The duo reportedly impersonated KDF solders before they robbed the woman.

The suspects are aged between 26 and 30 years.

The two are said to be residents of Masii and Katangi areas in Mwala and Yatta subcounties of Machakos county respectively.

They are said to have robbed the woman of the money and attempted to escape but irate members of the public caught up with them and subjected them to mob injustice before handing them over to the police.

They were rescued from the mob which was baying for their blood and handed over to officers from Matuu police station.

“We are currently interrogating the two suspects who are in lawful custody at Matuu police station,” a police source told the Star on Sunday.

The suspects reportedly disguised themselves as legitimate revellers and asked the barmaid to sell them alcohol before robbing her.

“One of the men forced himself into the counter armed with a sharp knife and stole the money. He threatened to harm the woman,” a source said.

The woman later raised alarm after she was robbed of the money attracting the attention of members of the public who gave chase.

“Members of the public caught up with the two suspects at Kinyaata market along Kithimani-Katangi road and subjected them to thorough beating before they were rescued and taken to Matuu police station,” a source said.

Eye witnesses said the two were armed with swords and knives which they were using to threaten their victims with before the mob caught up with them.

DCI detectives attached to Matuu police station have launched investigations into the incident.
