President William Ruto has told the new Attorney General Dorcas Oduor that she deserves the position adding that he is certain she will deliver.

Speaking on Tuesday, after she took the oath of office at State House, Nairobi, Ruto said her getting the job was not just about being a woman, but because of her competence.

The President insisted that he was confident of her ability to do the job diligently and to deliver as expected.

Ruto said he knows Oduor will make the country proud.

“Many people have said you become the first woman in independent Kenya to become Attorney General. This appointment is not just about you being a woman, it’s about you being competent. I am very confident that on account confidence and ability to deliver, you deserve to serve in this position.

"I am very confident and clear that you will not only make us as a country proud but also you will demonstrate what has always been said that what a man can do, maybe a woman can do better. Many people will be watching,” the President said.

He encouraged Oduor to work in collaboration with other agencies to make sure the representation of government and the people is timely and appropriate.

“It is very important Madam Attorney General that you work with all the other agencies to make sure that responsibility and legal representation to the government and people of Kenya is timely, robust and appropriate.”

Oduor will be the first woman Attorney General in Kenya.

She takes over from Justin Muturi who was reappointed to the Ministry of Public Service in Ruto's new Cabinet.

Oduor was confirmed last week by the National Assembly after vetting by the Committee on Appointments.
