Uasin Gishu Governor Dr Jonathan Bii has begun the search for a  replacement for former Deputy Governor John Barorot who resigned.

Bii said he would in a short time forward the name to the county assembly for vetting.

“In fact, its will be in a few days and I will nominate someone from just around here,” he said.

Bii said he would nominate someone capable of doing a good job like former DG Barorot

Sources said former Moiben MP Sila Tiren is topping the list of those being considered.

Others being considered include former MCA Pius Kigen, Engineer Anthony Chelimo and current Uasin Gishu Trade executive Martha Cheruto.

The governor is also set to reshuffle his team.

Uasin Gishu is a cosmopolitan county with majority of residents being from the Kalenjin community especially the Nandi and Keiyo subtribes.

Since the tenure of former governor Jackson Mandago, there has been a balance of power with the Nandi’s taking the top seat while someone from the Keiyo sub-tribe occupies the deputy position.

Mandago was from the majority Nandi while his deputy for 10 years was former DG Daniel Chemno from the Keiyo community.

Bii is also from the Nandi community while Barorot is from the Keiyo side.

As is tradition, all those being considered are from the Keiyo side and the nominee will likely be a person who will boost Bii’s re-election in the next polls.

Barorot said it took him time to adapt to politics having spent most of time working in the private sector.

He is a reserved person who focused more on service delivery.

“In the private sector, we focus more on profits but in the public sector I have learned that it’s really the opposite where you look at value in terms of services,” Barorot said.

Residents of Uasin Gishu welcomed the exit of Barorot with many wishing him well as takes up a new role in the private sector.

Benjamin Leting hailed the good working relationship between Bii and Barorot and urged the governor to ensure he appoints a new DG who would equally support his vision.

“Bii always applies the open door policy and we hope the man or woman he nominates will be equally good and will embrace all residents of Uasin Gishu,” Leting said.

He said they were happy with the work done by Barorot for the last two years he served.
