Former President Daniel Moi's press secretary Lee Njiru now says that Azimio leader Raila Odinga is lucky because he has never been President.

Speaking on Wednesday, Njiru said had he been elected president, chances are high he would become unpopular among the people.

He said this is because Kenyans have monumental problems that no one person can handle

"He is lucky because he has never been elected President. If he is elected President, he will be very unpopular because nobody can handle the monumental problems Kenyans have. The farmers, teachers, doctors and Gen Z; 55 million Kenyans with a myriad of problems," he said on Citizen TV.

Njiru went on to say that if he was to advise the former Prime Minister, he would tell him to pretend to want to be president, but should not desire to be the office holder.

"Raila is very lucky and I would advise him to pretend that he wants to be President but at the back of his mind he shouldn’t."

Asked about the African Union Commission job Raila is seeking, Njiru said that is easier compared to running Kenya.

He said at the job, Raila will be working with many technocrats on policy issues unlike it is the case with Kenya.

The Opposition leader has sought to be President of Kenya in five different elections, losing each time.

He first vied for the Presidency in 1997.

He would later vie in 2007 where former President Mwai Kibaki was controversially declared the winner.

Raila would later on vie twice against former President Uhuru Kenyatta in 2013 and 2017.

In 2022, he also lost to President William Ruto.
