Environment Cabinet Secretary Aden Duale has highlighted areas development partners can focus on to help in the fight against climate change.

The CS said the efforts must be strategically aligned with the ministry's priorities and the government's vision.

Duale said there are five strategic goals, spanning from enhanced environmental, climate change and forestry governance to mitigation of climate change impacts.

"These priorities are not just abstract concepts or high-level policy directives; they are concrete, actionable plans that have been carefully crafted to address the most pressing needs of our people," CS Duale added.

"I cannot stress enough the importance of aligning your support with these priorities."

CS Duale called on the development partners to focus their programme on the National Agenda including Agricultural Transformation, support for Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs), Social Protection and Human Capital Development, Infrastructure Development and Environmental Sustainability.

"These pillars of the Bottom-Up Economic Transformation Agenda are interlinked and mutually reinforcing. By focusing on these areas, we can create a virtuous cycle of growth and development that benefits all citizens, particularly those at the grassroots level," he said.

CS Duale called on them to focus on the impact by prioritizing programs that have the potential to drive sustainable change and create lasting benefits for local communities.

"Our agenda is about leaving no one behind. I encourage you to design your programs in a way that ensures the participation and inclusion of all segments of society, particularly women, youth, and marginalized groups," he said.

He was speaking during the Consultative Forum of Africa Green Climate Finance National Designated Authorities (AFDAN).

Duale said building local capacities is critical to the sustainability of development efforts.

He added that it should be done through training, mentoring, or providing access to technology.

"I urge you to invest in initiatives that empower local communities to take charge of their development," he added.

"I encourage you to seek out opportunities for collaboration with the Ministry and other development partners to leverage synergies and avoid duplication of efforts."

CS Duale said they should measure and monitor progress to ensure that they are on the right track.

He added that it is important to have robust systems in place for measuring and monitoring progress.

"I urge you to work closely with the ministry to develop and implement monitoring and evaluation frameworks that will help us assess the effectiveness of our interventions and make necessary adjustments along the way."

Duale said the ultimate measure of success will be the extent to which the efforts translate into tangible improvements in the lives of local communities.

To achieve this, he said, local communities should be at the centre of the development efforts.

"This means involving them in the planning, design, and implementation of projects to ensure that they are relevant and responsive to their needs," he added.

He said empowering communities to take ownership of their development increases the likelihood of success and sustainability.
