Eight students who are members of the Kenya Women Under-17 national team will sit a special KCSE exam to allow their smooth participation in the World Cup.

The Women's Under-17 World Cup will be held in the Dominican Republic in November, meaning the players will miss their KCSE exams.

Main papers of the national exam are scheduled to start on November 4 and end on November 22.

Meanwhile, the Women's World Cup fixtures for Kenya has their Group C games scheduled for between October 18 and 24. They will then play their quarter final matches between October 26 and 28.

The teams that will be successful in the quarter finals will progress to the final stages up to the final day of the tournament on November 3.

As such, Knec has promised to make arrangements for the affected students to sit the exam before the day of the final paper.

"The council will liaise with centre managers of the affected six secondary schools and make appropriate arrangements within the examination period  for administration of the 2024 KCSE papers that clash with the World Cup fixtures," Knec said in its letter to PS for Youth Affairs.

The letter dated August 12 was signed by CEO David Njengere.

The development follows a statement in the National Assembly by Nominated MP Irene Mayaka.

She sought to know steps were being taken to ensure the students fully participate in the World Cup without missing or worrying about the exams.

The MP had argued that the clash between the fixtures and the exams posed a significant challenge for the players.

"It is crucial and imperative that we support these young and ambitious players in their dual pursuit of academic excellence and academic success," the MP told Speaker Moses Wetang'ula when she sought the statement from the departmental committee on Sports and Culture.

Knec asked the authorities to ensure the students are back at the respective schools immediately the teams participation at the World Cup ends.

"We appeal to the Ministry of Youth Affairs, Creative Economy and Sports to consider making travel arrangements for the candidates to be back at their respective schools as soon as their active participation in the tournament ends."
