A 30-year-old man was shot and killed during a kidnap drama in Buna village, Wajir County.

Police said they found the body of Daud Adow Mohamed’s body outside a house moments after unknown gunmen had raided there and kidnapped one Issa Omar Bulle, 42.

The motive of the August 22 attack is yet to be known.

According to police, locals called to say there were gunshots from the homestead at about 4 am and when they went to check the source, they stumbled on the body of Mohamed.

Locals said after the shooting, five cars sped off from the scene with the target towards Buna's general direction.

Mohamed had gunshot wounds on his head and blood all over his body.

At the door, there were bullet holes which are suspected to have been fired from inside of the house.

Five spent cartridges believed to have been fired from an AK and 47 assault rifles were collected from the scene.

The body was removed to Bute sub-county hospital for autopsy and later released to the family for burial as per Islamic rites.

The area is near the Kenya-Somalia border where al-Shabaab militants cross for attacks before escaping back.

The incident comes days after gunmen attacked and killed a government driver before escaping with his four-wheel drive vehicle in Mandera.

The driver was with his two relatives when he was attacked on Saturday, August 10, officials said.

The gunmen believed to be al Shabaab terrorists were armed with pistols when they carjacked a government Land Cruiser belonging to Deputy County Commissioner for Mandera East, Patrick Meso.

The attackers fled with the vehicle toward the Somalia border, leaving the body of the deceased at the scene.

A woman who was on board was spared and managed to jump out of the moving car. The deceased comes from the area.

The gang abandoned in a forest a six-year-old boy who was in the vehicle and escaped.

The area is near the Kenya-Somalia border, which is usually breached by terror groups who come and attack the region and escape back.

More personnel have been deployed in the area in an effort to tame the attacks.

Locals have always been urged to work with security agencies to tame the trend.

This is because such attacks cannot happen without the knowledge of the locals.

This comes amid heightened security following fears the terror group could be planning an attack after a long lull.

The border region has borne the brunt of repeated attacks from the militants who are at times aided by locals.
