Suna East MP Junet Mohammed has said the formation of broad-based governments was for a good cause.

President William Ruto and Azimio leader Raila Odinga joined to form the government of unity.

Junet said the formation of a broad-based government was an arrangement to create employment for others.

The legislator added that the move was not a coalition between ODM and UDA parties.

"Hii porojo inaenezwa, ODM haina coalition na UDA, sisi ni mambo tu watu wamekutana wengine wamepewa kazi hii ni kama come we stay, hii ni come we stay. Watu wameingia kwa nyumba namna hiyo tu na sisi tumewachwa nyuma natutaendelea hivyo," he said.

(There is untrue information being spread. ODM is not in coalition with UDA, it is just people meeting and others being given a job. It is like come we stay. Some people have joined the government just like that while some of us have been left behind to oversight and we shall continue like that).

Junet said the party is confident ODM leaders selected to work in government will deliver.

The Suna East MP further called for reconciliation among leaders saying the campaign period is over.

"We should forgive each other because a lot of things were said during the election period. We should forgive each other from today," he added.

Junet said it is time the country fights exclusion within the government calling for unity.

He spoke on Saturday during the homecoming ceremony of Cooperative and MSMEs CS Wycliffe Oparanya graced by the President.

During the 2022 election period, some of the leaders who agreed to form the broad-based government were fierce critics of the President.

However, they have since maintained to work together for the unity of the country.

Several leaders have come out to publicly oppose the formation of the government of unity terming it as a 'betrayal' to the people.

Raila has on several occasions affirmed that they agreed to form a broad-based government and not a coalition.

The Azimio boss said he spoke with Ruto on the phone and agreed to meet him and discuss the security situation.

Ruto asked leaders from various political affiliations to support ongoing efforts to unite Kenyans for the sake of unity and transformation.

The President appealed to leaders who do not support the broad-based government to do so in the spirit of patriotism.

"I want to tell fellow leaders that this is not the time for us to be disunited, to think about selfish interests or our political formations. This is the time to think about Kenya," the President said.

"Let us all work together towards transformation, progress and unity so that we can overcome poverty."

He said the unity and transformation of the country are more important than the selfish, personal and political interests of leaders.
