A 30-year-old man used a rope to strangle his wife to death after he suspected her of having a love affair with a neigbour at Ndiwa market in Kericho County.

The man also poisoned their daughter aged one and a half years but she was saved by police who rushed her to Londiani sub-county hospital for treatment.

Londiani OCPD Agnes Kunga confirmed the incident.

According to Kunga, the man also took poison before running away but could not bear the pain causing him to call the police to the place where he was hiding.

“We found him having vomited a lot and in critical condition. We took him to the Londiani hospital where he is under guard as a murder suspect," Kunga said.

Kunga said the couple lived in a rental house at the market center and the man had been suspecting that whenever he was away, his wife had been sneaking to the neighbour's house for lovemaking.

Kunga said last evening the man was not at home but another neighbour called and informed him that his wife had gone to the neighbours house.

“The man immediately returned and indeed found the wife in the neighbour's house but he did not react immediately," Kungu said.

The man asked his wife to get to their house with the child and it was there that he took a rope and strangled the 22-year-old woman until she died.

He then got some poisonous chemicals which he gave the child to drink before he escaped from the house.

“He is now under treatment and on guard. We are hoping that he survives so that we charge him in court for the murder," the police boss said.
