Chilly weather to continue in several areas – Kenya Met

This is according to a weather forecast for the period between August 27 and September 2, 2024.

Intermittent cold and cloudy conditions are expected to continue in different parts of the country, the weatherman has said.

In a forecast for August 27 to September 2, the Kenya Meteorological Department said this will be experienced in parts of the Central Highlands, Western Kenya, Rift Valley and South-eastern regions.

The weatherman said rainfall is likely at the start of the forecast period in parts of Western Kenya, Central Highlands, Rift Valley, Coast, and North-eastern Kenya.

"Low night-time temperatures (below 10°C) are expected in some parts of the Central Highlands, Rift Valley and South-eastern lowlands," the department said. 

Kenya Met added that high daytime temperatures (above 30°C) will be experienced in parts of the Coast, North-eastern and North-western Kenya.

In the Highlands West of the Rift Valley, the Lake Victoria Basin and the Rift Valley, the mornings will be characterised by rains over a few parts which will give way to sunny intervals.

The afternoons will have showers and thunderstorms over a few places with showers at night.

The maximum temperatures will range between 28 degrees Celsius and 30 degrees Celsius with low temperatures of seven to nine degrees Celsius.

These areas include Siaya, Kisumu, Homa Bay, Migori, Kisii, Nyamira, Trans Nzoia, Baringo, Uasin Gishu, Elgeyo-Marakwet, Nandi, Nakuru, Narok, Kericho, Bomet, Kakamega, Vihiga, Bungoma, Busia and West Pokot Counties.

In the North-Western (Turkana and Samburu Counties) the mornings and afternoons will have sunny intervals while the nights will have showers over a few places.

The maximum temperatures will be between 34 and 35 degrees Celsius with low temperatures of 13 to 16 degrees Celsius.

In the Highlands East of the Rift Valley [including Nairobi County] the mornings will be cloudy with light rains and cloudy giving way to sunny intervals as the days go by.

The afternoons will have showers over a few places and sunny intervals and nights with showers over a few places.

The temperatures will range between 24 and 25 degrees Celsius and lows of 10 and 11 degrees Celsius.

The areas affected are Nyandarua, Laikipia, Nyeri, Kirinyaga, Murang'a, Kiambu, Meru, Embu, Tharaka and Nairobi Counties.

In the North-eastern region (Marsabit, Mandera, Wajir, Garissa and Isiolo Counties), there will rain over a few places giving way to sunny intervals in the mornings as the days go by.

The afternoons will be characterised by showers over a few places giving way to sunny intervals with nights of showers over a few places and cloudy conditions.

The degrees will range from 34 and 35 degrees Celsius on the maximum and 15 and 16 degrees Celsius on the minimum.

In the Southeastern lowlands (Kitui, Makueni, Machakos, Kajiado and Taita Taveta Counties) will have mornings of cloudy conditions breaking into sunny intervals.

There will be chances of showers over a few places which will give way to sunny intervals as the days go by.

The maximum temperature will be 31 degrees Celsius with minimum temperatures ranging from nine to 12 degrees Celsius.

On the Coast (Mombasa, Tana River, Kilifi, Lamu and Kwale Counties) there will be morning and afternoon showers giving way to sunny intervals.

The nights will be characterised by a chance of showers over a few places giving way to partly cloudy conditions.

The maximum temperatures will range between 31 and 32 degrees Celsius with the minimum temperatures being 21 to 23 degrees Celsius.
