Government spokesperson Isaac Mwaura now says that President William Ruto has done well in managing the country.

Speaking on Monday night, Mwaura said this is even though people had written his administration off.

"President William Ruto has done extremely well because people had written us off and they were thinking we would not survive six months," he said.

Mwaura explained that having served in the National Assembly and in the Senate from 2013, as early as 2014 he had foreseen a situation the country is currently in.

He said that it was a situation that was expected to befall the country.

"It's a tightrope. Was it anticipated? yes, from my development economics background and also having served in the National Assembly Committee on Budget and Appropriations for three years, having been vice chair of the Budget and Finance Committee of the Senate I can tell you without a doubt that way back in 2014, I had seen whoever would be president in 2022 would have no country to run," he said.

The government spokesperson noted that a government takes about 12 to 36 months to settle in well but Kenya continues to face a series of disruptions.

He added that the Kenya Kwanza government inherited debts from the previous administration and what is currently being done is balancing to be able to give service to the people.

"There was drought, El Nino rains, the protests and there were other protests before, we are in a post-Covid era and we have inherited a country that is in so much debt," he said.

Mwaura said the current administration conducted an audit of the entire government to know where all projects stood and what could be done to have them completed.

He said this is what led to the Finance Bill, 2024 that was later rejected.

He noted that had it passed, the government would have the resources to complete all projects.
