Wiper leader Kalonzo Musyoka on Wednesday chaired a town hall meeting at Ufungamano House with the youth and other stakeholders.

Kalonzo was on Tuesday reportedly picked as the new coalition leader as Raila Odinga transitions to continental leadership, where he’s seeking to be the next African Union Commission chairperson.

DAP-K party leader Eugene Wamalwa said on Tuesday the meeting would be attended by Gen Z and the Kenyan youth in general, the private sector, and civil society on a wide array of issues, including defending the constitution and education.

On Wednesday, Kalonzo posted a video on his X account where he is seen showing off his dance moves to the now popular arbantone song ‘Anguka Nayo’, which was the unofficial anthem during the anti-tax street protests.

Arbantone, also known as UrbanTone, is a fresh musical style that has emerged in Nairobi. It's particularly popular among young people.

Kalonzo captioned the video thus: “Current status of The Official Leader of the Opposition and the Wiper Party. Location: Ufungamano House, Nairobi. Occasion: An appraisal of the journey.”

Kalonzo has without number stated that he would not be joining the broad-based government and vowed to stand with Gen Z in demanding accountability from the government.

Kenya officially launched Raila’s AUC candidature on Tuesday at Nairobi State House, officially marking the end of his involvement in local politics.

In a statement shortly after the launch, Azimio co-principals led by Eugene Wamalwa held a press conference at the SK Command centre and endorsed Kalonzo as the new leader.

Wamalwa said they have confidence in Kalonzo's leadership, even as he stressed that Raila will continue being Baba.

“In Azimio, there will be no vacuum. We are several constituent parties of Azimio, and we’ve been very blessed to have very serious leadership in our coalition. As he (Raila) leaves, the next ranking member of the leadership of our coalition is the Hon Stephen Kalonzo Musyoka,” he said.

He said the decision to pick Kalonzo was reached through consensus by all coalition membership.

Wamalwa said they have great faith in Kalonzo’s leadership given his experience as the second highest-ranking leader in the coalition.

“As Baba leaves for Addis Ababa, there will be no lack of leadership in our great coalition, in fact, we will just get stronger,” he affirmed.
