Uganda leader Yoweri Museveni on Tuesday reaffirmed his support for Raila Odinga’s bid for AU Commission chair.

He revealed that he had made the position clear to Djibouti, which has also fronted a candidate- Mahmoud Youssouf.

“I am representing Uganda to advocate for Raila Odinga's AUC bid as he is a dedicated pan-Africanist. He is not just seeking a job or career advancement; he is a true leader,” Museveni said.

He told off those interested in the race for career progression.

“This is not about adding to the CV. We are looking for a pointman to lead us in that big battle of prosperity. If you say prosperity comes from African integration, we must ensure the person leading is convinced and not one looking for work,” Museveni said.

The Uganda leader exuded confidence that Raila will carry the day, adding he was “very happy to support on behalf of Uganda.”

“A young man from Djibouti told me he is the candidate for Djibouti. I greeted him well. We took photos…had a cup of tea, but I told him I was coming here to support Raila because he is the candidate who is fit for this job,” Museveni said.

The Uganda leader said the AUC role was one of “vision, conviction and knowledge”, further hailing Raila as being top of his game when it comes to loyalty.

“Raila, historically speaking has been on the side of patriotism,” Museveni said, lauding the united front put by Raila and President William Ruto despite their earlier political differences.
