Homa Bay residents on Thursday were treated to a light moment after Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua hilariously introduced himself.

His presence in the Nyanza region did not deter him from mentioning Mt Kenya.

Gachagua known for his protection and strong defence towards the Mt Kenya people, has on several occasions said that he will champion the unity of the mountain.

The DP said that he had brought lots of greetings from the Mt Kenya region.

"Ndio huyu mimi Riggy G, yule mtu kutoka mlima. Nimekuja na salamu mingi kutoka mlima Kenya mmepokea?" Gachagua said.

(This is Riggy G from Mt Kenya. I have brought greetings from the Mt Kenya region, have you received them?)

Gachagua is currently accompanying President William Ruto on a development trip to the Nyanza region.

The DP went ahead to say that he now understands why it is important to embrace unity.

Gachagua said that he was amazed at the warm reception they received from Azimio leader Raila Odinga's backyard.

He drummed up support for the Azimio boss saying he is the best person to lead Africa.

"I did not know the secret of living with you, but I now know the secret to engaging with you is by us supporting Baba (Raila)," he said.

Ruto is on the second day of his planned four-day tour of the Nyanza region.

The tour started on Wednesday with an extensive visit to Migori county where the President launched several projects.

He also visited Kisumu county.

On Thursday morning, Ruto launched the Oyugis Water Project which will benefit the residents of Kabondo Kasipul and Kasipul.

Ruto noted that Homa Bay is growing fast and requires a reliable and accessible supply of over 120 million litres of water daily.

He is scheduled to inspect the Homa Bay fish market and later launch the Rusinga Ring road before wrapping up the day with the thanksgiving ceremony of Treasury Cabinet Secretary John Mbadi.
