Three Kenya Union of Post Primary Education (Kuppet) officials in Kakamega have been arrested for allegedly causing disturbance in a school.

The three were arrested by DCI officers from Kakamega East Subcounty at one of the schools at dawn and locked up at Kakamega Central Police Station.

They were arrested by DCI officers from Kakamega East Subcounty.

They were first locked up at Shianda police station in Mumias East sub-county before being moved to Kakamega central cells.

The three were reported to have caused distance at the school when they attempted to force teachers out of the institution.

Police also said they were threatening teachers willing to teach.

Kakamega East DCI boss Lovina Omolo declined to comment on the arrests saying she lacked the capacity to do so.

Kakamega County Deputy DCI boss Nicholas Waringa confirmed that the three were in custody but said the matter was being investigated by officers in Kakamega East.

The lawyer for the three Ken Echesa demanded that they be released unconditionally or be produced before the court.

“I asked the DCI to provide me with all the names of teachers they are looking for so that I can produce them for easy arrest,” he said.

He said the arrests and threats constitute a nefarious scheme by the government to intimidate teachers who are exercising their constitutional right to demonstrate and asked the tutors not to fall for tricks.
