Star journalist Susan Muhindi elected chairperson of court reporters association

Citizen TV's Dzuya Walter was elected as court reporters' association Vice Chair.

Star Newspaper journalist Susan Muhindi was on Saturday elected as the Chairperson of the Court Reporters Association of Kenya (CRAK) in elections held on Saturday, in Nairobi .

The reporters convened at Karen after an eight month period of working to revive the association that had remained dormant for a while.

"Together we will work towards achieving the growth of the association and its members through trainings, workshops and possibly exchange programmes. Let us work as a team," Muhindi said.

Also elected was Caroline Kubwa of the People Daily Newspaper as the association's Treasurer.

The positions of Chair and Treasurer were the only ones that were contested.

Sam Kiplagat of the Daily Nation was elected as the Secretary General, followed by Citizen TV Dzuya Walter as Vice Chairperson and Ghetto Radio's Rodgers Oduor as the the assistant Treasurer.

"I feel honored to be elected to this position. I promise to give the association my all," Kiplagat said.

Kubwa and Rodgers said: "We undertake to work with dedication and dignity it deserves. Let us work together to better the association."

Kamau Muthoni of the Standard newspaper was unanimously elected as the Chief Whip.

He expressed his gratitude and said, "I hope and pray we will become a benchmark of integrity, unity, and success in the industry."

The elections were overseen by Star Newspaper Editor Jillo Kadida who also has extensive background on court reporting.

The association's Patron Supreme court Judge Isaac Lenaola was also present during the elections.

He called on leaders to serve with integrity and insisted that those wishing to join the association must be vetted for accountability purposes.

He also said that plans are underway to ensure reporters are trained on matters Judiciary even though the aftermath of the infamous 2024 Finance Bill affected the budget allocated for the same.

"We shall do a lot together. I remain committed to support the association and its members," Lenaola said.
