Kakamega man axed while separating fighting couple dies

A 28-year-old man was axed to death as he tried to stop a fight between a couple in Buyinje village, Musoli, Kakamega County.

The deceased was identified as Moses Akumali.

Witnesses said he was on his way home when he witnessed a couple fight on Saturday morning.

According to police and witnesses, Akumali tried intervening to stop the fight.

It was then that the man in the fight picked up an axe and struck Akumali on the head three times fatally injuring him.

This stopped the fight between the couple, witnesses told police.

It is not clear what prompted the argument and fight between the two.

Villagers rescued the victim and took him to Shibwe Hospital where he received treatment and was discharged. He had then bled profusely.

Unfortunately, according to police, his condition deteriorated, and he passed away while being rushed to Kakamega County Hospital.

The deceased's body was later taken to Mukumu Mission Hospital mortuary for a postmortem examination.

Meanwhile, police in Matuu, Machakos County are investigating the murder of a man whose body was found lying on the roadside.

The body was found in Gateki Shopping Centre within Kaluluin Sub Location, police said.

Police who visited the scene found that Daniel Muendo Mutwa, 28, had been stabbed in the chest by a neighbour after a fight on Sunday, September 1.

The two were neighbours living in the same rental houses and were reported to have disagreed for unknown reasons.

Detectives handling the matter said the assailant escaped the scene minutes later.

The cause of the fight between the two was not immediately established, police said adding they are investigating the same.

The body was moved to Mbaku Mortuary for postmortem examination as the hunt for the said assailant goes on, police said.
