- The Ambassador of the Republic of Indonesia to Kenya Mohamad Hery Saripudin expressed his delight at seeing the Kenyan community join hand-in-hand to celebrate Indonesian culture.
The Embassy of the Republic of Indonesia in Nairobi hosted the Enchanting Indonesia event at Wisma Indonesia (The Residence of Indonesia).
The colourful celebration of culture and heritage event was initiated and organized by the Wife of Indonesia's Ambassador, Zulfah N. Saripudin, and the Ladies' Association of the Indonesian Embassy.
The event happened on Tuesday.
It was also conducted as a part of regular meetings with the committee and members of the American Women's Association (AWA).
The event offered a delightful blend of fashion, dance, arts, and culinary, showcasing the rich traditions of the wonderful Indonesia.
During his opening speech, the Ambassador of the Republic of Indonesia to Kenya Mohamad Hery Saripudin expressed his delight at seeing the Kenyan community join hand-in-hand to celebrate Indonesian culture.
He emphasised the importance of cultural exchange in fostering mutual understanding and strengthening the bonds between Indonesia and Kenya.
It underscored the commitment of the Indonesian Embassy to promote cultural diplomacy and strengthen friendship between the two nations.
"Tak Kenal maka Tak Sayang, Indonesian saying which means do not know then do not love. Hope by introducing Indonesian art, culture, and cuisine, mutual understanding and friendship is created and it in turn strengthens bonds between Indonesia and Kenya," Ambassador Hery said.
A Balinese dance performance captivated the audience with its graceful movements and vibrant costumes.
The dance was performed by an Indonesian national of Balinese Ethnic, currently residing in Kenya, adding an authentic touch to the celebration.
Attendees were treated to a selection of traditional Indonesian dishes, allowing them to experience the rich flavors and aromas of the archipelago's cuisine.
From savoury treats to sweet delicacies, the food added an extra layer of enjoyment to the festivities. It underscored the commitment of the Indonesian Embassy to promote cultural diplomacy and strengthen friendship between the two nations.
The event began with a video presentation on batik, the iconic Indonesian fabric art known for its distinctive patterns and deep cultural significance.
Batik, which is recognized by UNESCO as a “Masterpiece of Oral and Intangible Heritage of Humanity”, took center stage as models walked the runway in a batik fashion show.
The show featured both traditional and contemporary designs, highlighting the versatility and timeless beauty of batik.
Guests also had the opportunity to walk through unique batik pieces at a stand set up at the venue, making the fabrics intricate craftsmanship accessible to all.
