Police in Nakuru are hunting for a gang that robbed a civilian and their colleague who was returning to work in Busia.

Police constable Kinoti attached in Busia said he was waiting to board a matatu to his workstation when the incident happened on Tuesday morning.

Police said a black Noah saloon car with four unknown occupants stopped near him and the occupants told him they were heading to Busia.

They agreed to take him to Busia for Sh700.

On the way, the journey took a turn when the vehicle, initially heading towards Eldoret, deviated and picked up another passenger, Erick Mbeke, at Sobea, police said.

Instead of stopping at the agreed location, the driver continued until reaching Twins Bridge in Sarambei, Mau Summit,

The occupants brandished pangas and rungus, threatening the passengers to surrender their valuables, police said.

According to police, the assailants robbed PC Kinoti of Sh1,000 from his police Sacco account, Sh2,000 from his M-shwari account, a Samsung A03 Core phone valued at Sh26,000, his certificate of appointment, and his national ID card.

They also stole cash from Mbeke’s M-Pesa account and went away with his Oppo A1K phone worth Sh17,500.

Mbeke also suffered a head injury after being struck with a rungu after resisting the robbers, police said.

The assailants then forced the victims out of the vehicle and fled towards Eldoret.

The police have since visited the scene and initiated the necessary investigations.
