The Kenya National Union of Nurses has decried what they termed as increased interference in health service provision by politicians in Machakos county.

In a statement, KNUN Machakos branch told politicians to stop politicising health matters in the county and focus on their constitutional mandates for which they were elected.

“The Kenya National Union of Nurses Machakos branch firmly condemns any political interference in the operations of various health facilities across the county,” they said.

The statement dated September 6 was signed by KNUN Machakos branch secretary, Michael Saka.

"As a union, we are disgusted by recent events unfolding where politicians have failed on their mandate in presenting issues they perceive to be affecting the county in the right forums. They instead have resorted to meddle such information in wrong places,” the union said.

Saka said the political class comprising leaders such as MPs should focus on checking the national government and ensure money is disbursed to counties to spur development.

He called on the Senate to push for the allocation of adequate resources to the health sector.

“It’s sad to witness MPs, MCAs and senators walking around while remittances for the months of July and August 2024 haven’t been made. We urge these leaders to focus on legislative policies that will improve healthcare in the county,” he stated.

Saka said as medical professionals, nurses' mission is to provide quality services to patients, a commitment they have upheld and will continue to strive for.
